Pedagogy Clips

Quality vids relating to pedagogy:

  • Agentic Position (a teacher has agency, can make a difference, no deficit theorising)

  • OK, this is more than just pedagogy, but there's loads of good pedagogy in it :)

Carol Dweck - start at time 1:20 for fixed mindset vs growth mindset explanation & examples.

DRIVE - do rewards help at all? People do the best stuff just because they want to....challenge, mastery, making a contribution, transcendent purpose

Linda Darling-Hammond - adviser to Obama, ex secondary teacher, how to make a difference as a school, as a teacher.

LANGUAGE

The following vids were especially for EAL (English Additional Language) learners, who seem to be in almost every classroom in NZ (i.e. English is not their first language) - however these principles work well for everyone! These are not available on the web, so I have embedded them here.

This is a secondary geography class - first they do a 'language survey' to assess language ability. This is called
anticipatory guide. (see for more on this รพhttp://esolonline.tki.org.nz/ESOL-Online/Teacher-needs/Pedagogy/ESOL-teaching-strategies/Reading/Anticipatory-reading-guides)
